In the past century, the social problem of divorce has become an increasing trend. Indications of divorce are manifested through many different social characteristics such as the age at which a couple gets married, poor financial management, domestic violence, and premarital cohabitation, to name a few. Most of these causes ultimately have the ability to lead to infidelity, as one or both partners in a marriage may not be satisfied or content with their spouse. To aid couples into having an affair, an online dating service was created in the early twenty-first century, known as Ashley Madison, with the tagline, ?Life is short. Have an affair?. This service offers a discreet way for people to escape from their relationship in hopes of not getting caught. The leading cause for divorce, I believe, is infidelity, as it is one of the most common issues a married couple will face, and the Ashley Madison dating service contributes greatly to this issue. This blog will discuss how infidelity acts as the leading cause of divorce for married couples, briefly outlining intrapersonal and interpersonal reasons why people engage in extramarital affairs. As well I will examine why the Ashley Madison dating service was created, the technology behind it, and how it is still reinforced today.
There are many factors contributing to divorce, including age, gender differences, employment, location, distress in marriage, and spousal support. These factors have the ability to cause many issues between married couples, which eventually cause them to be unhappy with one another. This is where the Ashley Madison dating service comes in. It is simple a tool used to aid people in discreetly engaging in an extramarital affair when they are discontent with their own relationship.
Research shows that men are more likely to commit infidelity than women. Men and women have different reproductive interests and therefore, different motives for entering an affair. Ashley Madison allows for men to resist from getting too close to their wives, and yet may prevent the couple form getting a divorce, as it is a way for men to ?blow off steam?. To some men, after a while, their wives are no longer sex objects to them, and instead they are figures of maternity and many men feel a loss of sexual desire for their wives after children are born. For many women, resorting to Ashley Madison is easier if there is no love or real feelings involved in their relationship.
The Ashley Madison online dating service was created as a way for a company to profit from those signing up looking to have an affair. It lures people in by helping them to have a discreet affair if they are not content in their relationship. The site was created and intended for married couples and aids infidelity to essentially reach a higher level. The way the website works is that it is free to sign up, and eventually users will have to pay if they want to start communicating with potential significant others to engage in an affair with. In today?s society, it is apt to say that many people would rather have a secret affair than to go through a separation with their spouse. Arguably, this could be because a separation or divorce is messy, time consuming, expensive, and partners may not agree on everything, whereas having an affair is secretive and essentially easier to go through.
